Olympia, Greece (Stop #3 on the Cruise):
Stop three on my Mediterranean cruise took us to Greece. I was very excited to be visiting this very old and mythical influenced country. Olympia is exciting because of the history with the Olympic games. On our short trip off shore (about 2 hours) we got to experience the site of the olympic games and the museum where they held all of the preserved artifacts. The weather in Greece was already perfect; warm and breezy.
I don't have that much information on the artifacts inside of the museum, because it was literally closing in 5 minutes and I only had time to run around and snap a few pictures.
The image below is actually under a piece of glass that I am standing on. It depicts the Olympians "wrestling" I assume. I did learn that women, besides Hera, were forbidden to attend the olympic games and attendance by a woman was punishable by death. Geez...
Old forms of currency.
Olympic ruins! This place was so amazing to see and feel like you really are seeing a part of history in present time.
The grouping of blocks below is the site of Hera's altar where the Olympic flame would be lit.
The arch is a highly photographed picture in Olympia leading to the races.
Should have taken a picture of me lining up to run.
Messing around with some new camera lenses.
I believe this is Phidias' Workshop.
Olympia was a fun place to take photos.
After viewing the ruins, we had minimal time to take a quick peek into town and the tourist area. It was very pretty. I decided to buy some souvenirs.
Brandon bought "Ouzo" which is the traditional Greek liquor. It tastes like a white version of Jagermeister. Louis was very interested in the Ouzo.
I also bought myself this beautiful aqua and silver bracelet. I dont know if the silver is real but Greece is a great place to buy silver and gold at discounted rates. You can kind of see the little circles all over the bracelet which are the Greek symbol for life. The bracelet is prettier in person.
Favorite Thing about Olympia:
This is an obvious one, but I really enjoyed walking around at my own pace seeing the ruins.
Next Stop: Athens, Greece
Do you have a favorite Greek God?
