Windsor Castle

The last day we were in England, we decided to book a day trip to see Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Bath, mainly to see the iconic Stonehenge.  It costs about $300 for this day trip for two people.  We did this on New Year's Day, so we didn't really get much sleep the night before.

Windsor Castle is the official residence of the Queen.  The outside of the castle is modeled after mainly English Gothic and Georgian architecture and the interior is mostly Baroque with Rococo and Gothic elements.  The castle was originally built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century and has been a place of royal residency for centuries.  It's the oldest and biggest inhabited castle in the world.  The queen was not there today as her flag was not being flown.

Unfortunately, we could not take pictures inside but I still want to show off the interior.

So as you can see, it was once again raining all day, but because we visited during the holidays the inside was beautifully decorated with Christmas decor.  We used Viator.com to book the tour (including Stonehenge & Bath, same day). I'll be booking with them again!

To book a guided tour of Windsor Castle go here.

Next Stop: Stonehenge!

There are two previous parts to this trip:
London (Day 1)|London (Day2)

Do you dream of visiting the Queen's residence?

  1. Twenty years ago, we visited Stonehenge and Bath. It seems like we couldn't visit Windsor Castle because the Queen was there. Does that sound right? I enjoyed your pictures very much.

    1. You can still visit when the Queen is there because she lives in a separate section that we do not get to go in.

    1. Hi Melody, I couldn't find a link to your blog, if you have one? But I do have a Pinterest. I post pins from my blog but it's really just a personal Pinterest. I should probably start one for the blog at some point.

  7. Thx for sharing on Tuesdays with a Twist. Funny to see this, because although we rarely travel out of the US, we did tour England and Scotland for 2 wks last summer, and did the exact same Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Bath tour. A delightful day indeed!

    1. The rooms were pretty amazing! Especially the ones that I featured in this post, but I have to admit, Germany by far has the better Rococo!

  15. What I remember most about Windsor Castle are the wonderful tapestries all of which told such great stories. Loved revisiting through your photos.

  16. I love architecture, and this is amazing, however the decor is not to my taste, and I think my family and I would get lost in that castle. Thanks for sharing weekly on Tuesdays With a Twist.
