The last part of my trip to Metz, France took me to a Wine and Gatronomy Exhibition. Flea market shopping and then my pick of French foods? Yes, please. It just so happened that the same day as the flea market, they were also having the food expo. It was in the same building and entry is free. This is a place where you can sample the finest French and worldly foods, such as beef, cheeses, beers, wines, macarons, quiches, and so on. Everything was excellent and the people were very friendly. Mostly everyone there spoke English. Check out the foods below.
Even though I found a lot of cheap scores at the flea market, the food expo was crazy expensive. You find yourself enjoying a sample of nougat, buying a slice, and then finding out it's 15 Euro! We did buy a quite a few items above. Here's a list and prices:
- French Macarons- 10 Euro
- French Wine- 10 Euro
- French Beer- I think 20 Euro?
- French Nougat 15 Euro
- Swiss Cheese- 17 Euro
- Greek Olive Tapenade- 8 Euro
There are also two other parts to this trip.

sigh. macarons. we just got back friday from 2 weeks in france where i did a diy macaron tour-which was just me buying macarons from a bunch of different places and comparing. laduree for the well deserved win....i love knowing they await me at home since we bought some at the airport.
ReplyDeleteI've had that brand of macarons as well. They are very good. The ones I had were okay. They were a local Metz brand.
DeleteWow- oh - Wow, this looks great!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing trip! Even though the food was expensive - everything looks so delish. What fun!
ReplyDeleteYum!!! Fabulous food and a Flea!?! Sounds like the perfect day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter.

I love Nougat but wouldn't pay 15 Euro for it. Love the look of the cheese with the mould line through the middle. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha we wouldn't have paid for it either but the sell was a smooth talker. Loved practicing his English, we were eating samples and before you know it we see the price and it's too late haha
DeleteI think it's interesting that what I predominantly notice at a French market is cheese, pastries, and breads whereas Asian markets seem to be heavy on smelly, dried fish. Guess which one I'd rather go to? French, please. Your photos are lovely and make me want to buy some French nougat and macarons right this moment.
ReplyDeleteFood in France is expensive! Full stop! It's usually great quality and delicious but that comes at a price. Looks like you had a good time though. Did you get to the Pompidou too?
ReplyDeleteeverything looks/sounds amazing - but holy crap to those prices! yikes!
ReplyDeleteI would like to try everything!

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - that is my ideal day right there. I went to a similar flea market / food market in a small village in the hills of Umbria last week when I was in Italy. I could spend hours perusing markets! Lovely finding your blog through the Travel Tuesday linkup. :) xx
