Sea Snails |
My drink of choice is always rum and coke. Here you can see a dish of sauted veggies and shrimp in oil. Very good! |
Traditional Spanish Meals
Above you can see a pineapple salad, crusty bread, goat cheese with jam, some sort of deliscoius sea food, wine, and (chicken nuggets? lol)
|
This was my favorite meal. Papas con choco (potato and cuttlefish soup), homemade gazpacho, tinto de verano (the delicious wine spritzer), and meat empanadas. |
This meal is with tortillas (potato pie made with egg), chicken rolls with ham, and olives. Over in the corner are some smoked white fish and salmon in oil. This was actually very good on bread. |
Shrimp cakes. These baby shrimp turn into these yummy cakes. You can see all the little eyes when you eat them. |
Tuna empanadas |
Tapas
Fried ham pieces |
Normal Club Sandwich and fries in Seville |
Ensaladilla Rusa in Seville |
Chicharon and Spanish cheese in Cadiz |
Various tapas in Madrid (I realize Madrid isn't considered southern Spain but I wanted to add this). |

My goodness...what an interesting post! I learned so much! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the Link Up this week!
Yum Yum! Now I'm hungry for some delicious Spanish food. I loved the tapas when I was there!
ReplyDeleteI just tried those fresh water snails last week! Of course I squirmed a ton before taking my first bite but they were actually pretty darn good. They remind me a lot of mushrooms in texture and taste.
ReplyDeleteBrittany Ruth, You were so lucky to stay with a family. That's where you get the true experience and real food. I'm not so sure about those snails either, and I too, love escargot!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I did stay with them!
DeleteI have never been to Spain (my husband has---before we were married). And, I have never had ANY of the foods you showed. I have had Mexican empanadas as well as Brazilian empanadas (which I just posted). But neither type has ever been filled with Tuna. Thanks for sharing. It is always fun to see different and unique foods:) found at do tell tuesday. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI have never had the ones filled with tuna either and I was kind of weary about it but they just taste like meat anyways. They aren't bad.
DeleteWhat I wouldn't give for some traditional churros! Great post and pictures, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have to say I pretty much like the look of all of that, apart from the snails! :D
ReplyDeleteI went to southern Spain on honeymoon, and this brought back all the memories of the amazing food that we ate out there! I love churros - I've even tried making them at home, but without much success - although I'm still not convinced about snails.....great post, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I love about travel is trying out the foods of the region. A friend went to Spain last year and really loved it. Spain is on my list! Happy travels. I am linking up to you through Travel Photo Thursday.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about Spain and your food shots are great. I wish I could go back. :)
ReplyDeleteYummy! I'd definitely be doing a churros and tapas tour of Spain. It's great that you had a chance to experience home cooking as well. Bring on the wine spritzer!
ReplyDeleteI was in love with the Tinto de Verano, it's so good. And I'm pretty sure I'm doing a tapas tour in Barcelona next month!
DeleteDeliciouso! I love Spanish food. I cannot have enough of tapas and paellas. It's great that you got to try a lot of traditional home cooked meal. They're the best. I have not tried carocoles; maybe on my next trip.
ReplyDeleteMany things looks YUMMY, but I would have to pass on the snails and shrimp eyes looking at me.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun you must have! Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY...
Blessings,
Cindy
The shrimp eyes were a bit daunting but they were so darn good.
DeleteI've heard of churros before but never tried them. Really need to visit Spain again just for the food! ;)
ReplyDeleteThe first time I tried them, we made them in my Spanish class in high school, and I was so excited to actually get to try them in Spain.
DeleteSo interesting! I love seeing photos of food from around the world. Those tapas look delicious!
ReplyDeleteThis is so great!! You really would have tasted traditional Spanish food, staying with a family. It all looks delish and I am a fan of snails as well :)
ReplyDeleteWow this is definitely interesting! I've never had snails right out of the shell, so weird!
ReplyDeleteI love all the pictures of these meals! Looks so appetising! I stayed in Northern Spain for a while and it's very different from what I experienced and ate!
Hmm, I wonder how Northern Spanish food compares. I'lll be visiting Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca in the coming weeks.
DeleteIt was definitely lots of fish and squid and they definitely LOVE their cider! Hope you enjoy Barcelona and Palma :)
DeleteI never had the guts to try snails when I lived in Cádiz, but all of my classmates raved about them. Next time I visit, I'll be sure to psych myself up and finally try them! And a good tortilla de patatas + tinto de verano = one of my favorite meals in the world :) You can never go wrong!
ReplyDeleteYou are spot on! the tortilla de patatas and tino de verano were also my favorite meal. Haha our host family knew I loved it and kept buying bottles for us.
DeleteWow what a feast! It all looks so delicious...I've heard such great things about the Spanish food and hope I get to try it someday! That has to be one of the best things about staying with a host family.
ReplyDeleteSalmorejo is the best! So much better than gazpacho. I just made some last week and I already want to make another batch. :)
ReplyDeleteNever had the salmorejo but if it's better than the homemade gazpacho the host grandmother made then I'm in!
DeleteUntil now I can't bring myself to eat snail, but I have a feeling I will like it once I can pass the sliminess :S Interesting food spread Brittany, I would love try the shrimp cakes.
