Last month I got to go back to a place I love - Munich! One of my dearest friends from the States came to visit me and so a whirlwind adventure ensued beginning with a visit to the Nymphenburg Palace or Schloss Nymphenburg followed by the Hofbrauhaus (not pictured).
I couldn't pass up another opportunity to get to see some shining examples of Rococo interior and furniture mixed in with an overall Baroque aesthetic. It was designed to be the Summer residence for the rulers of Bavaria. You can find more history on the Palace here.
You only get to see a fraction of the actual rooms in the palace compared to room after room that you get to see in the Munich Residenz but sometimes just seeing a little bit is more enticing. Also, the palace is much easier to get to by car as it lies a bit outside the city.
You can opt to take different tours like the horse carriage museum and the porcelain room, but my friend Destiny and I decided to see just the basic tour of the palace with an audio guide. It costs 6 euros to do a self guided tour in the Summer. Plus you get to walk around the most beautiful Baroque gardens and courtyard both in front and behind the palace for free. If anything, this would be a great place for an impromptu photo shoot. It's gorgeous!
Once again, what I love about this place is that photos are absolutely allowed (without flash)!
If you decide to take a visit to the palace you can find more info here. Also you can view my visit to the Munich Residenz which has a similar look and history here and here.

Looks gorgeous - inside and out!
ReplyDeleteit's astounding how opulent (or gaudy) this schools is. You did a good job of capturing it!
ReplyDeleteSo, that's what Nymphenburg looks like in summer! :) Glad you also enjoy Munchkin; I miss that place, too, in the summertime. All the best, Brittany!
ReplyDeleteYou had a lovely day for the visit. You were lucky having a good friend come to visit and what a lovely thing to do together.
ReplyDeleteThe outside looks so stately and doesn't even seem to hint at how ornate the inside is. I'd also like to return to Munich some day. I don't think I saw this my first time there.
ReplyDeleteYes, the outside is Baroque which is very symmetrical in style. The interior has mixtures of Baroque, Rococo, and other styles.
DeleteWow - it looks gorgeous inside and out! So ornate. You captured it beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI have been to this palace, but it was during the winter and it looks so much prettier with flowers around it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous palace, and not too expensive to tour as well.
